Evaluation Methodology
Review & Comparison Policy
How sim racing peripherals are broken down, compared, and documented.
Notice of Evidence Scope
Our peripheral reviews operate on a specification-research model. Evaluations are analytical comparisons of published mechanical schematics, component architectures, and hardware interfaces. Extrusion & Axis does not claim completed bench-top endurance cycles, material stress tests, or empirical laboratory measurements unless specifically documented.
Core Evaluation Criteria
Every piece of hardware is dissected across four structural and electronic checkpoints:
- 1. Connectivity & Ecosystem Independence
- Determination of whether a peripheral operates as a standalone USB HID device compatible with any PC setup or requires proprietary wheelbases and closed manufacturer software.
- 2. Sensor & Signal Architecture
- Distinguishing true load-cell strain gauges measuring kinetic force from Hall-effect angle sensors or potentiometers measuring physical displacement, alongside ADC bit-depth verification.
- 3. Structural Extrusion Fitment
- Mapping bolt hole dimensions against 40-series aluminum profiles (4040, 4080, 40120) and slot dimensions (8mm vs 10mm T-nuts) to evaluate mounting stability.
- 4. Electronics & Wiring Modularity
- Examining controller boards, wire gauge strain reliefs, connector types (such as GX aviation plugs or JST headers), and expandability for DIY button boxes.
Evidence Limitations
Because our evaluations derive from specification analysis and factory documentation, readers should note that factory tolerances, individual component variation, and firmware revisions may vary over time. We encourage readers to verify their chassis profile standards and USB hub power budgets before final assembly.
